If you don’t already follow us on Instagram, please do @CedarsStory. I often will share mommy hacks there and this was a recent follower favorite. I am newly learning on the road of Down Syndrome, however, I have been a mom for over 17 years and have 6 children to my credit, so I sure do have some tricks up my sleeve.
Cedar is now 9.5 months old and due to his low tone (a hallmark of Down Syndrome) he is not able to sit independently just yet (though he’s working really hard at it)! We try to come up with creative ways for him to still interact with his environment but bathtime was befuttling me. What it usually meant is that he was just showered with one parent or another or occasionally put into an infant baby bath. However, now that he is growing so strong and getting bigger, he was also fast outgrowing the infant seat.
This is where the awesome, and inexpensive, mommy hack comes in. This container was one that we had been using to store shoes in, however with a little ingenuity it just became a baby bath that Cedar can sit up in, and play with toys all while being bathed.
As soon as I posted this video on Instagram the questions started pouring in. Where did I get this contraption, what store can someone go to. Here is my honest answer…I am not 100% sure. We must have picked it up at Walmart or a Dollar store, because that is where I shop, and we had shoes stored in it, and before that toys so it has been around awhile but I am sure that I have seen these at stores not long ago. Here are a few other shots of the awesome makeshift tub in case anyone needs other angles.
After reading through some of the comments on my hack I was also made aware of an awesome product sold by Amazon called the Shnuggle Baby Bath Tub – Compact Support Seat, Makes Bath Time Easy, 0-12m, GREY. That one looks like a winner too!
Okay moms, try this out and let me know what you think!
