Rory’s mama is a vlogger, if you are unfamiliar with the term, she is a lifestyle blogger in video form. The cool thing is that you get to see her expressions, hear her voice and feel as though you really get to know her and her beautiful son, Rory through her posts on her youtube channel. Leigh was surprised with a birth diagnosis of Down Syndrome and the family resides in Scotland.
When I asked for birth stories to be shared, Leigh messaged me a touching video she had posted for her followers on youtube. I had a few more questions for her and she was gracious enough to answer those as well.
Luckily for Leigh and Rory, Scotland appears to be in the more advanced side of Down Syndrome education and awareness. Leigh reports that early intervention begins right away, as do appropriate screenings for hearing, vision, cardiac and other issues closely associated with Down Syndrome.
However, Leigh herself did not have a reference point for Down Syndrome as she knew no one at all who had Down Syndrome. What Leigh did know was Vlogging. When Rory was born, Leigh began her hunt to try to find someone, somewhere, whom she could identify with that was vlogging about their Down Syndrome journey. Like me, when we learned of Cedar’s diagnosis, Leigh could not find what would give her comfort. She wanted to see how daily life was… from moms living life with a child who had Down Syndrome. Also, like me, when she couldn’t find what would have helped her, she decided to be an innovator and create it for others, hence, her youtube channel was born. Be sure to follow oneLuckyMum on youtube and @oneluckymum_ on instagram.
Now, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and watch Leigh’s story.

I just had a good cry for the morning. What a wonderful memory of Dad’s voice stimulating his boy. Oh, soooooo, sweet!
So many memories flooded back, so many things reminded me of Dianna’s birth (especially those cheeks and the concern of cardiac issues). Dianna actually slept in our bedroom for a year and a half. And we still use a baby monitor even though she’s 5 years old.
What a beautiful story to hear and see! And what an incredible way to start this new journey and share it with others.
