(this is an honest review of the Yummy Mitt Teething Mitten- which I received for free and was compensated for reviewing)
Teething, it’s one of those rites of passage that all moms have to deal with, but we don’t look forward to. My guy has started gumming everything in sight, his hands, his toys, my arm, you name it. One of the problems, however, is that my guy has a bit more difficulty with motor skills due to having Down Syndrome and low muscle tone. What that means is that he wants to chew, but keeping something in his hands and being able to bring it to his mouth is an insurmountable challenge at this point.
Enter in… the Yummy mitt.
I wasn’t sure what to think of this when I first saw it, I mean it surely is cute, but would my babe really like it? When I received mine in the mail, I tore it open and wasted no time. I did do a quick skim read of the package, the Yummy Mitt is made from food grade silicone, the mitten itself is 100% cotton, it is soft and pliable and it even glows in the dark. I did almost miss the adorable carry case as it was in the bottom of the packaging and I didn’t realize it at first. I love that the product takes into account a mama’s concerns and makes mention that it is Latex Free, Phthalate Free, BPA free and PVC free.
But, what I really wanted to know was, would the Yummy Mitt make my teething little one happy? It did. In fact, I even emailed the company (Daryling & Co.) about it right away with a photo of my happy Cedar gumming away on the mitt that was strapped to his hand so that he couldn’t drop it and become frustrated.
The first time I put the mitten on Cedar he went to town for over 30 minutes. He chewed, slobbered and played with his mitten-laden hand with such abandon that I just sat back and laughed. Hubby’s first question was, “how gross and wet is the mitten now?” It wasn’t soggy and yucky at all, in fact, the majority of the gnawing was on the silicone and there was barely any dampness on the mitten. The mitten also has a crinkle patch in it to add to the sensory aspect and the colors are bright and engaging. The mitten is very well constructed and appears to be able to hold up well with washing. The interior of the mitten is padded and very soft to the touch so baby’s hand isn’t irritated by wearing the mitten. I also love the adjustable velcro strap to make the mitten as tight or loose as necessary for different sized babies.
I’m going to have to say that this mitten is a winner. I love it as an idea for young babies who don’t yet have the dexterity to hold a teether, or for babies, like my Cedar, who may have special needs making the dexterity impossible at the teething stage.
